UCI Worlds comes to Yorkshire

In case you've still not heard, cycling is going to feature in a big way again this September as Yorkshire once again plays host to one of the biggest events on the world sporting calendar - the UCI World Road Championships.

North Yorkshire will be the focal point for the Championships where Harrogate host the finish of every race over the nine days of competition. West Yorkshire will also get its a fair share of the action with the Women’s Elite Road Race starting in Bradford on Saturday 28th and the Men’s Elite Road Race starting in Leeds and coming through the Wharfe Valley on Sunday 29th. The Championships will run from 22-29 September 2019. For details see worlds.yorkshire.com

Ideas for getting involved

For schools wanting to celebrate the event and encourage students to experience cycle racing themselves, here are a few ideas on how we can help you get involved:

  • Book a KS1, KS2 or whole school taster day where the kids can learn new skills, take part in fun activities and race like the pros!

  • Hire a coach to run an after-school cycling club

  • Get your youngest kids active with a balance bike fun day

  • Take part in an inter-school competition or have us organise your own school cycling tournament

  • Run a cross-curricular topic on cycling and learn more about the sport - see below to access a free education materials pack
